Our Summer Camp

July 2021

One of the main reasons we fundraise is to enable us to run our week long Speech & Social Therapy Camp in the Summer Holidays. Due to Covid 19, we were unable to run in 2020 so our children were so excited to be getting together, having fun and learning once again this Summer.

A lot of planning and organisation goes into each Camp. We try to work with different suppliers and always have a theme that we know will resonate with our children – this year was The Greatest Showman!

Our aim is always to ensure each child gets the most out of the week (with the emphasis being very much on having fun, but with some underlying goals included as well). Every child has different aims – they could be speech related, confidence building, socialising, independence, team work, self-care, etc so care is taken to ensure the programme each day includes targeted elements, as well as introducing new concepts, experiencing new ideas and often pushing our children out of their comfort zone (which we all need to do every now and then).

This year we had a great Speech & Language Therapy Company https://symbolconnect.co.uk/ as well as a Specialist SEN Dance Company, Chance to Dance http://www.sendanceclub.co.uk/ and to round off the week, we were lucky enough to have 2 lovely members of the Swings & Smiles Team provide a fun morning of games, songs, crafts and activities https://www.swingsandsmiles.co.uk/. We were even treated to a visit and a street dance display from the actual Spiderman, who gave each child a Participation Certificate & Goody Bag

How do we fund our activities?

Well, we have a number of interesting ways of raising funds – one of which is by collecting books (as well as DVD’s and CD’s) and selling these on with every penny raised going straight back into Chatterbox.

We are very lucky in that we are given LOTS of donations of unwanted books (we will take literally any type of book – we were given the entire Library from https://www.furzeplatt.com/ at the start of the Summer!). We also collect unwanted DVD’s and CD’s (again – ANY type).

We have 2 drop off points (Maidenhead & Cippenham) or we can arrange collection.

So if you are having a clear out we would love to have any books / DVD’s or DC’s you no longer want.
